A coworker of mine recently clued me in to an amazing thing.
You can make popcorn in a brown paper bag in the microwave.
Yeah.
Maybe this is old news to some of you, but I’ve never heard of this! We’ve been popping corn over the stove this whole time. But now we are hooked on this method.
The genius of this method is it is super healthy (as healthy as popcorn can be, anyway). First of all, its way better than any store-bought microwavable popcorn, which is filled with processed garbage and chemicals you can’t pronounce. Secondly, if you like to pop your own kernels, this is great because you don’t need to cover them in oil first. You literally just pour kernels into a brown paper bag, fold the bag to close it, and microwave it until most of the kernels have popped. Then you can add toppings to your liking.
Um hello! Low budget, no dishes to wash, and YOU control the calories? Amazing.
Here’s the “recipe”: Put 3 Tbs of kernels in a brown paper bag, microwave for approx 2 minutes, or until popping slows. Add toppings. EAT.
I’ve experimented with a few toppings: I like to spray olive oil cooking spray onto the popped popcorn and then toss it with some salt in the bag. Also, on last night’s batch, I sprayed canola oil cooking spray and added salt and chipotle seasoning to give it a little kick. The possibilities are endless! You could add butter if you want, or truffle oil, or eat it plain ….whatever strikes your fancy.
So now, what else can I put on my new favorite snack??

…or add some sugar and cinnamon…. not very low cal.. but better than chocolate! ;o)
ooh I like that! maybe with brown sugar… yum!
Truffle oil and sea salt is the way to go!!
You’ll have to make me some to see if I like it before I go out and spend $18 on truffle oil!
This sounds genius Mariel! My parents own an air-popper and I’ve thought of getting one myself but now I think I will just buy some brown paper bags!!!
Totally! brown bags are like $1 in the store! I mean, at least try this method first BEFORE you buy an air-popper. If you like it, you can save a bunch of $$
